Library of Things
The Library of Things is WFPL's collection of non-traditional materials. You can borrow a stand mixer, a metal detector, even a circular saw! Take our Things home to start projects you've been meaning to tackle, test out equipment before you invest in your own, or throw an outdoor movie viewing party.
You will need your library card number and password to make a reservation. You may also call the Circulation Department at 617-972-6431 to reserve or cancel Things.
Please note: Things may show as available on days WFPL is closed. Make sure to check that the library is open before coming to pick up your reserved item.
Borrower’s Agreement and Safety Waiver
All borrowers must sign both the borrower’s agreement and the safety waiver before borrowing a Thing. Forms are available to print here from the website, or at the Main Circulation desk. WFPL will keep these forms on file and they will apply to all future borrowing.
- All Things can be reserved for a period of 7 days. You can pick up your reserved item any time during that 7-day period, but the return date is 7 days from the start of your reservation period.
- Any valid Minuteman Library card can be used to reserve and check out a Thing.
- Items from the Library of Things must be checked out from, and returned to, the main circulation desk of WFPL during regular operating hours. Things may not be returned in any return bins or to any other library.
- All patrons will be required to sign a Borrower's Agreement before borrowing a Thing for the first time. Once signed, this agreement will be applicable to all successive check-outs. Some equipment also requires the signing of a Safety Waiver.
Suggest a New Thing
All library collections should be of interest and use to the Watertown community. Patrons are encouraged to submit suggestions for new items using our suggestion form. New items will be considered based on criteria outlined in WFPL's Library of Things Collection Development Policy .
Donate a Thing
Donated items will be considered based on the materials selection criteria outlined in WFPL's Library of Things Collection Development Policy. Donations of items will only be accepted if the item is in usable condition with a reasonable expectation it can circulate for at least one year after acquisition. To donate items, email firstname.lastname@example.org with a description of the item. Items will not be accepted without prior authorization from library administration.
