Finding a Tutor

Project Literacy offers regular one-on-one English tutoring with dedicated volunteer tutors. Tutoring may be arranged after registration. To make an appointment to register, contact Philippa Biggers at pbiggers@watertown-ma.gov or 617-924-8797.

Becoming a Tutor

Complete a volunteer application, give us a call at 617-924-8797, or email our tutor coordinator, Jacky van Leeuwen. Tutor training generally takes place twice a year and meets in the evening for 2 hours per session for a total of 8 hours, one night a week for 4 weeks.

Our next trainings are scheduled for October 15, 22, 29 and November 5 - 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM.

Qualifications

What qualifications do you need to become a tutor? You need to speak, read, and write English, be a good listener, and be able to spare two hours a week. That’s it.
