Interim Library Director

The City of Watertown (population 32,986) seeks a highly qualified, skilled director to fill the position of Interim Library Director. The Interim Director will report to both the Watertown Free Public Library Board of Trustees and the City Manager. This position will act as a transition director between the outgoing Director and the incoming Director and will be responsible for day-to-day operations of the library including budgeting and personnel for 1-2 months beginning July 1, 2023. The WFPL has 26 full-time and 12 part-time workers in addition to a pool of substitute staff. This busy library is open 70 hours a week and hosts a variety of programs for children, teens, and adults. Off-site, the library runs Hatch Makerspace and a bookmobile. The position works both internally with library staff and externally with other City departments. 

Position Duration

Up to 3 months temporary position or until permanent position filled.

Commensurate with experience

Required Minimum Qualifications

Master of Library and Information Science; minimum 2 years’ experience as Library Director, preferably in a public library; strong operations and budgetary management skills; strong people management skills; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
