Our Marathon Exhibit

Our Marathon: The Boston Bombing Digital Archive will be at the Watertown Free Public Library on Saturday, January 25th from 1-4pm.  Our Marathon is a crowd-sourced digital archive of stories, photos, video, and social media related to the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings and its aftermath. This event is an opportunity for members of the Watertown community to share their stories with Our Marathon’s still-growing archive. It is also a chance for members of the Our Marathon team to formally introduce the archive and its intentions to Watertown.

No story is too small for Our Marathon. We believe that sharing stories from survivors, families, witnesses, visitors to the city, and everyone around the world touched by the event will speed the healing process. We also believe that a digital archive will preserve these stories for future generations, allowing them to see how so many of us experienced the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings.

Members of the Our Marathon team will visit the Watertown Free Public Library on January 25th to help community members share their stories with our web site. We will also have a room reserved for people who would like to share their stories on film. We will showcase some of the stories and images of Watertown that are presently in our collection, as well as some of the thousands of additional items people have added to the archive. Our Marathon knows that the events of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings and their aftermath affected people in many different ways, and we are interested in hearing these stories directly from members of the Watertown community. Everyone has their own story of the 2013 Boston Marathon, and we believe that these stories, told in the words of the people who experienced them, matter.

Our Marathon: The Boston Bombing Digital Archive is a community project hosted by Northeastern University’s NULab for Maps, Texts, and Networks. Our partners include WBUR: Boston’s NPR News Station, Channel 5 Boston (WCVB-TV), and The Boston Globe’s Globe Lab, as well as institutions like The Digital Public Library of America, The Countway Library of Medicine, and The Internet Archive. Stories about Our Marathon have appeared in The Boston Globe, The Chronicle of Higher Education, and Runners World, among other publications.
