The Viewscan III microfilm reader, located near the second floor public computers, is connected to a PC and printer, allowing for various uses of the filmed records.
The library’s collection of microfilm is of interest to genealogists and local historians particularly. It has runs of the various newspapers that were published in Watertown—the Enterprise, the Tribune-Enterprise, the Sun, the Chronicle, the Press, and currently the TAB & Press. Also on microfilm are Watertown’s vital records that date as far back as 1630, many years of the Massachusetts census between 1790 and 1920, and Watertown-Waltham city directories from 1869 into the early 1900s.
