July 5 to August 17 Come to our Summer Reading kickoff, Tuesday, July 5 from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm.
While many aspects of the reading program are the same as in years past, there are some new components.
WPS Summer Reading Lists: The Watertown Public Schools and the Watertown Free Public Library have compiled suggested summer reading lists for students, parents, and staff. Reading Logs: As always, your child will record time spent reading in his Reading Log. New this year, Reading Logs will remain at the library for the duration of the 7 week program. You will always know where your Reading Log is. Any time spent reading or being read to counts!
Heifer International: This year the incentive for readers is a charitable donation to Heifer International, a non-profit organization dedicated to ending world hunger while caring for the Earth. The WFPL, along with other Massachusetts libraries, have chosen Heifer International as an appropriate recipient for a donation because they promote the idea of a global community, as our One World, Many Stories theme suggests. The more hours of reading logged, the greater donation we can make to Heifer International. This is your chance to Read to Feed!
Check out this quick 60 second video for an overview of how Heifer International works.
Programming: This summer the library is packed with fun programs! There are programs every day the library is open for the entire 7 week program. Details can be found on our Calendar of Events (link to google calendar). Some programs require registration. Registration for these programs begins two weeks prior to the event. To register call 617-972-6435. Celebrate all summer long! But remember to end the summer on a positive note at our wrap-up party Wednesday, August 17 immediately following the Bates & Tinknell performance.
