On the Podium: Personal Best

Like many, I have been viewing on television the XXII Olympic Winter Games being held in Sochi, Russia.  It has been engrossing to watch Olympians skiing the mountainous terrain of the Aibiga Ridge of the Western Caucasus along the Rosa Khutor Plateau--Ted Legity of Team USA winning gold in the Alpine Skiing Men’s Giant Slalom and fellow team member Mikaela Shiffrin, eighteen years-old, winning gold in the Alpine Skiing Ladies Slalom.

Whether in sports competition or in one’s daily life, giving one’s best effort is very satisfying.  This may require setting goals and exerting self-discipline to achieve them.  If this does not come naturally, a recommended book, Write it down, make it happen : knowing what you want-- and getting it!  by Henriette Anne Klauser may be useful.  How rewarding it is to hear the words, (or realize them internally) “Well done!”
