OneRepublic goes Native

OneRepublic Native

OneRepublic’s latest album Native is filled with enthusiastic anthems, melancholic melodies and singable choruses.  The album starts out with a bang with the radio ready Counting Stars and the majority of the album follows suit.  Counting Stars is a raucous party anthem with an excellent hook.  In the same vein of The Lumineers’ hit single Ho Hey, the track feels like it was meant to be sung by a group.  It’s irresistibly singable and it provides some of its own “hey” moments as well.  This is one of the strongest tracks on the album.  My other favorites include I Lived & Preacher.  These tracks have thoughtful singable choruses that remind me of much of FUN’s repertoire.

Ryan Tedder’s lead vocals shine throughout the album, but they truly take center stage on Can’t Stop and Don’t Look Down.  Lacking any real low points, this is a thoroughly enjoyable album from start to finish … even on repeat.
